Supported tools
What each of the 18 Goono MCP server tools does, with example prompts
The tools are 1 entry point, 9 read tools, 4 review tools, and 4 write tools. The hierarchy is workspace → project → folder (one level) → note. A key belongs to one workspace, so get_me is the entry point.
Common rules
- Tools see exactly what the key owner can see in Goono. See Errors and permissions for error codes.
- Each tool belongs to a rate limit bucket (
default/content/write). See Rate limits.
Entry point
get_me
Shows the key owner, workspace, and the key's scopes. Use it as the first call after setup to confirm which workspace the key belongs to and what it may do.
Example prompts
- Which workspace is my Goono key connected to?
- Can this key perform write operations?
Projects and folders
list_projects
Shows only projects the key owner belongs to. If the target project is ambiguous and two or more candidates match, the LLM lists them and asks.
Example prompts
- Show me my projects
- List the 5 most recently created projects
get_project
Shows a project's members and folder structure.
Example prompts
- Who is in the "Immunology" project?
- Show the folder structure of this project
list_folders
Lists a project's folders. Folders are one level deep, and this tool is only called separately for projects with more than 100 folders.
Example prompts
- How many folders does this project have?
- Just list the folder names
Notes, search, and files
list_notes
Translates the user's natural-language conditions into filters to find notes. You can filter by date written, author, original extension, tag, file name, and body text; all conditions must match at once. Without a folder, the whole project is searched.
There is no tag-list API. Guessed tags return empty results, so the LLM first looks at existing notes' tags and picks exact values.
Example prompts
- Show PDFs uploaded by Kim last month
- The 10 most recent notes tagged "PCR"
- Find notes whose contents mention "western blot"
get_note
Shows a note's details and notarization status. While the file is still being converted, file fetches return the original instead of the converted file.
Example prompts
- Is this note notarized? When?
search
Searches five sections at once: projects, folders, file names, tags, and OCR text. If only some sections fail, the others remain valid. OCR text search is empty when the workspace has no active plan.
Example prompts
- Search the whole workspace for "mitochondria"
- Which project has notes with "2026-03" in the file name?
get_note_file
The only way to read a note's contents. Returns an image, text, or an attached resource depending on the file type. You can choose the converted file, the original, or a thumbnail; while converting, the original is returned.
Files over 512KB cannot be read
The size is measured on the stored ciphertext, so it is slightly larger than the plaintext. OCR text is not exposed, so there is no fallback.
Example prompts
- Summarize this note
- Show the experiment result image I uploaded yesterday
list_research_drafts
Lists drafts written in the editor. Can be filtered by status. Requires project RW.
Example prompts
- Show my drafts in progress
- Are there any archived drafts?
get_research_draft
Shows a draft's details and body. If only the body fetch fails, the details are kept and the reason is reported. A draft that is still converting may have no body yet. Requires project RW; READONLY members cannot view drafts.
Example prompts
- Summarize the "March experiment plan" draft
- What is the status of this draft?
Reviews
Reviews are listed per project. There is no workspace-wide review list.
list_reviews
Lists a project's reviews with the requester, reviewers, progress, and file count. Can be filtered by status.
Example prompts
- Are there rejected reviews in this project?
get_review
Details of one review: each reviewer's rejection reason and response time, the requester's memo, and the re-request count.
Example prompts
- Why was this review rejected?
- Show the memo the requester left on this review
list_review_files
Lists the files included in a review. Files that have not finished converting may not be readable yet.
Example prompts
- Which files are in this review?
- List only the PDFs under review
get_review_file
Contents of a review file. Same rules as note file contents (converted/original/thumbnail, 512KB cap).
Example prompts
- Summarize the first file under review
- Show the contents of the rejected review's file
Writes
The four write tools require a write scoped key and project RW. Because they change what users see, the LLM is instructed to present a plan and get approval before calling them. Multiple items are processed one at a time.
create_folder
Creates a folder in a project. Subfolders are not supported (one level).
Example prompts
- Create a folder named "2026 H1"
- Create three folders, one per experiment type
rename_folder
Renames a folder.
Example prompts
- Rename the "Temp" folder to "Raw data"
- Add the year to the folder names
delete_folder
Deletes empty folders only and cannot be undone. If notes remain or a GitHub repository is linked, the request is rejected. In deletion-locked projects only admins may delete.
Example prompts
- Delete the empty folders
- Delete the "Temp" folder
move_note
Moves one note to another folder or project. Cross-project moves require ADMIN on the source project and RW on the target, and cannot target projects that require review.
Example prompts
- Move the PDFs in the home into the "Raw data" folder (show the plan first, execute after approval)
