Introduction
What the Goono MCP server is and what it can do
The Goono MCP server is a remote server that exposes Goono research notes, files, and reviews as MCP (Model Context Protocol) tools. Register it in an MCP client such as Claude Code, Claude Desktop, or Cursor, and the LLM can drill down from projects to folders to notes, and tidy up folders once you approve.

- Read — projects, folders, note lists and details, note file contents, research drafts, review status
- Search — workspace-wide search across projects, folders, file names, tags, and OCR text
- Organize — create, rename, and delete folders, move notes (requires a
writescoped key) - Prompts — guided procedures for summarizing notes, review reports, home cleanup, and folder restructuring
Terminology
| In the Goono app | In MCP tools |
|---|---|
| Research note | Project (projects) |
| Research folder | Folder (folders). Outside a folder = project home (folderId: null) |
| Research file | Note (notes). One note = one uploaded file |
| Editor file | Research draft (research-drafts) |
| Review | Review (reviews) |
The hierarchy is workspace → project → folder (one level) → note.
Good to know
- One key = one workspace. API keys are issued per workspace and user. Tools see exactly what the key owner can see in Goono.
- The server stores no credentials. It forwards the header to the backend as-is; expiry, revocation, and permissions are decided there.
- Transport is Streamable HTTP only. There is no stdio package.
- No OAuth. Clients that cannot send custom headers (such as the claude.ai web connector) cannot connect today.
